Venezuela
Along with the mainland situated on the north coast of South America, Venezuela owns 72 islands in the Caribbean. These include Margarita Island, Coche and Cubagua, Los Roques and the National Parks of Morrocoy and Mochima. The country was a Spanish territory until it gained independence in 1816. The official language is Spanish and the country is the size of France and Germany combined. The capital city, Caracas, in the North offers grand architecture including Casa Natal de Bolivar, birthplace of the National Hero who liberated the country, Simon Bolivar.
An unforgettable trip is to Angel Falls, the highest waterfalls in the world at 3212ft/979metres, part of the National Park of Canaima.

The country hosts three World Heritage sites - Caracas City University, Gran Sabana Plateau in the East, National Park of Canaima, views of The Andes to the West and Coro on the North Coast. The landscape offers a host of other sight seeing and exploratory opportunities, from the coastline and islands in the North to the Amazon Forest in the South of the country. These include the Central Plains, Maracaibo Lake and Lowlands, Merida State with the Venezuelan Highlands and the Guyana Highlands. A well developed road network and tourist infrastructure enable travelers to visit the main sites throughout the country. The beaches along the coast and on the surrounding islands provide visitors with plenty of places to relax and sunbathe, and the waters provide good snorkelling, diving and sailing. Los Roques archipelago is a popular destination for these activities as is Isla Margarita, 25 miles from the mainland.

Don't forget the abundant wildlife - including the anaconda - the World's longest snake, and the jaguar. Visitors may prefer to spot some of the amazing birdlife, up to 15% of the entire world's species of birds.
Visitors to Venezuela can choose to hike and explore the fantastic inland landscape or enjoy a relaxing holiday on the coast. Why not combine both activities for an exciting and fulfilling holiday in South America and the Caribbean?
