US Virgin Islands
Three islands form this United States Territory - St Croix, St Thomas and St John. The appeal of these islands are the coral reefs, white sand beaches and volcanic centres, providing tropical vegetation and stunning landscapes. The islands provide US and international tourists alike with a variety of entertainment and relaxing vacations in a popular part of the Caribbean. Good hotels and restaurants ensure that guests receive friendly, high quality service.
St Croix (pronounced saint croy) is the largest island of the group and hosts one of the airports in the south of the island. St Croix it is quieter than St Thomas and provides interesting Danish architecture for visitors to explore along with secluded beaches and mountainous forests. Buck Island Reef National Monument is a large nature reserve with an exciting snorkelling trail for visitors to explore the diverse marine life inhabiting the park. Other places of interest include the Rum Distillery, Whim Plantation Museum, huge stone forts and Government House. The annual Triathlon and Regatta is held on the island in May, as is Mumm's Cup Regatta in October. Tourists can stay in holiday resorts, beachside cottages or downtown hotels on the island.
St Thomas, the second largest island at 33sq. miles, is home to the capital - Charlotte Amalie and also has its own airport. Charlotte Amalie is a pretty town, revealing handsome Danish architecture from its past and provides tourists with great shopping, entertaining nightlife and is an important harbour for individual yachts and larger cruise ships. The legendary Blackbeard is said to have found refuge in the town during his pirating career.
The Rolex Cup Regatta is held in St Thomas in April and deep-sea enthusiasts take part in the Annual Blue Marlin Fishing tournament in August. Magens Bay, Coral World and the scenic Mountain Top and Paradise Point provide places of interest for visitors. Activities on offer are diverse and include diving, fishing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, golf and tennis.

St John is the smallest island, home to the Virgin Islands' National Park, which covers over half of the island and is situated to the East of St Thomas. This island is protected from over development - enabling visitors to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, inland forests, camping facilities and secluded beaches. Along with the tropical campsites St John provides luxury accommodation, mostly around the main settlement of Cruz Bay. The Annaberg Sugar Plantation is worth exploring as a cultural site. Dive sites accessible from St Thomas are also accessible from this island.
