Guyana

Guyana - where the Caribbean meets South America - is situated on the S.American continent and is bordered by Venezuela, Brazil and Suriname. This Independent Republic, part of the British Commonwealth offers a wide variety of landscapes to explore and enjoy - the hilly and clay belt, low coastal plains, the highland region and the interior savannah.

Previously laid claim to by the French, Dutch and British, Guyana provides a multi-cultural atmosphere, particularly in the capital Georgetown. Parts of Guyana have yet to be explored and the Republic provides visitors with rugged landscape and exciting territory. With 85% of Guyana covered in forest, travellers can explore amazing virgin rainforest, some of the best in the world. Travel inland in style - on light aircraft trips to view the 822ft (250m) high Kaieteur Falls (5 times higher than Niagara), or some of the other 275 waterfalls.

Visitors can participate in exciting activities such as jeep safaris, kayaking, rafting, rodeo horsebacking and rainforest trekking and camping. Those seeking less of an adrenaline thrill can sample the bird watching, fishing, sea turtle watching and hiking. Furthermore, all visitors are welcome to spectate at a variety of events including cricket, horse and motor racing, bird whistling and even goat racing!

The wildlife will also captivate the visitor - from giant lizards, bush tiger, jaguars, river otters to howler monkeys. Other places of interest to visits include the St George's Cathedral, Botanic Gardens, Historic Dutch Forts Mount Roraima and Kaieteur Waterfalls on the Potaro River

Many visitors enjoy accommodation in Georgetown, on the coast, but you can also stay in some of the cattle ranches in South Guyana for an alternative experience.
